Donald Trump Blasts Media for “Betrayal” Over Reports on His Health
Former US President Donald Trump has launched a strong attack on several major American media outlets, accusing them of spreading misleading claims about his health and physical stamina. The controversy began after multiple reports suggested that Trump’s pace and daily workload appeared to have slowed in recent months.
In a fiery post shared on Truth Social, Trump said that news articles questioning his energy levels amounted to “obsession, maybe even treason.” His comments were primarily directed at The New York Times, which recently published a detailed report on his schedule and public appearances.
Trump Says Media Is Trying to ‘Damage’ Him
Trump argued that the repeated focus on his health was not only unfair but also an “attempt to undermine and discredit the President of the United States.”
According to the 79-year-old Republican leader, such reporting is “a betrayal” by the American press.
“No president has ever worked as hard as I have,” Trump insisted, noting that he recently completed what he described as “long, thorough, and stressful” medical evaluations.
Trump also claimed once again that he “excelled” in cognitive tests — something he frequently mentions — adding that previous presidents never underwent similar assessments.
The New York Times Responds
The New York Times article in question highlighted that Trump’s current daily schedule appeared lighter compared to his first term. It also mentioned observations that he sometimes seemed tired or even dozed off during public events.
In a response sent to AFP, Nicole Taylor, spokesperson for The New York Times, defended the publication’s reporting:
“Americans deserve accurate journalism and regular updates regarding the health of their elected leaders. Trump praised our coverage of previous presidents’ health — we are applying the exact same standards to him.”
Trump Doubles Down on Criticism
Trump went further during a rally in Pennsylvania, once again mocking his Democratic rival Joe Biden, whom he accused of being “asleep.” He has repeatedly suggested that Biden suffers from cognitive decline — a claim widely disputed by medical professionals.
The former president added that The New York Times should “shut down” entirely, claiming that the newspaper has become a source of “false narratives and political attacks.”
“When I slow down, I’ll know it. But that’s not happening right now,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
