Abdul Ghani Baradar, who was appointed Mullah Mohammad Hassan's deputy last week, called the news of his death "false propaganda" in an audio message, AFP reported.Rumors were circulating on social media, especially in India, that Baradar had been assassinated by anti-Taliban groups at the presidential palace.
The audio clip of Baradar states, "News of my death was published in the media.The media always spreads false propaganda.I've been traveling for the last few nights and I'm fine wherever I am. "
The authenticity of this audio message cannot be confirmed but it has been published on the Taliban's official website.Taliban leader Hebatullah Akhundzada was also reported to have died several years ago, but only two weeks after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, the Taliban said he was in Kandahar.
