The explosion caused a small earthquake and leveled the building, while ambulances and fire brigades have rushed to the scene.

A powerful explosion occurred in the early hours of Tuesday (24.12.2024) at an explosives manufacturing factory in Turkey , resulting in 12 people losing their lives and at least 3 being injured. 

The explosion occurred at a factory in the Karesi district of Balikesir, Turkey. The governor of the region, Ismail Ustaoglu, noted that there are confirmed casualties and injuries.

Specifically, it announced that 12 people lost their lives and 3 others were injured. The explosion caused the specific factory building to collapse.

No possibility has been ruled out so far, while there is a suspicion that the explosion occurred following sabotage.

However, the governor was quick to point out that this was not sabotage.

Firefighters, ambulances and police have rushed to the scene.

"The windows shook from the explosion and we saw a fireball in the sky. Pieces of it were flying. Twenty people usually work in a shift. A total of 300 people work in the factory. There were also people from the village working there," Ustaoglu told CNN Turk.

The injured have been taken to hospital, with doctors optimistic about their recovery.

It is noted that rescuers and firefighters are searching the area for any trapped people.
