Helge Brown, acting chief of staff to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, has defended the use of loudspeakers in religious freedom in Germany.

Speaking to German TV channel Blood Live, Helge Brown said, "Giving the call to prayer is part of freely adopting and practicing one's religion."The party is from CDU.During the last parliamentary elections in Germany, the CDU nominated Armin Laschitt for the post of Chancellor.

However, after the defeat of the CDU in the election, now Helga Brown is also a candidate for the leadership of this party.

So far, there are only a few dozen Muslim communities in Germany where loudspeakers are allowed to call for prayers in mosques.A similar pilot project was recently launched in Cologne. But there are also many civic circles who do not want the call to prayer to be heard on loudspeakers in local mosques.

Thus, this project has actually become a cause of social debate.Critics say allowing only one religious community to call to prayer over loudspeakers is tantamount to giving that minority priority over other religious minorities.

According to a survey, 75% of Germans oppose the use of loudspeakers in mosques.

The pilot project in Cologne, which will start in October, has a duration of two years, during which time adhan can be given on loudspeakers in mosques only before Friday prayers and under certain conditions.

Initially this permission was given to only a few mosques but now many more mosques in the same city have also applied for such permits.
