Chennai Test: England beat India by 227 runs

Web Desk :England have beaten India by a huge margin of 227 runs in the Chennai Test to take a one-wicket lead in the four-match series.

At the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, England gave the hosts a target of 420 runs to win the match.Following which the entire Indian team piled up 192 runs on the last day of the game.

India Baiting:

For India, skipper Virat Kohli stood out with 72 runs while Shabman Gul and Chattiswar Pujara scored 50 and 15 runs respectively.

India's five batsmen could not even join the double figures.England's Jack Lychee took four wickets, James Anderson three, Joffra Archer, Dom Bess and Ben Stoke one each.

Man of the Match:

English captain Joe Root, who scored a double century in the match, was named Man of the Match.

It may be recalled that England scored 578 in their first innings and 178 in the second.While the hosts scored 337 in the first innings and 192 in the second.

English captain Joe Root was the only batsman to help the team cross the 500 mark on the team's total by scoring a double century in the first innings.Besides, neither batsman of both the teams scored a century.

Test Championship rankings:

After defeating India by a large margin, England has taken the first position in the rankings of the ICC Test Championship.

Earlier, New Zealand had taken the first position after defeating Pakistan in the series.Which has slipped one place to the second position.

Australia is third and India is fourth in the Test Championship rankings.

It should be noted that the International Cricket Council (ICC) had organized the Test Championship in 2019 to promote Test cricket. 

The top 9 teams in the ICC rankings for the Test Championship are on the field.The each team had to play five series.Maximum of the teams have played their matches.The final match of the Test Championship will be played in England in July 2021.
