Hamas: "We will probably reject the peace plan for Gaza"

A senior Hamas official has told the BBC that the Palestinian movement may reject Donald Trump's peace plan for Gaza.

Donald Trump's plan, which was accepted on Monday (29.09.2025) in Washington by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is already being questioned by the Palestinian side. According to information from the BBC, a Hamas official denounced a text that demands the disarmament of the movement and the arrival of an international stabilization force in Gaza , which he considers a new form of occupation.

Divided opinions in Gaza

The BBC reports that some Gazans see this plan as an opportunity for a ceasefire. "Even if the devil himself came up with a plan to stop this war, I would support it," said one resident.

Among the terms that anger Hamas is the handover of all Israeli hostages held in Gaza in a single phase – something the movement believes would deprive it of its only bargaining chip.

Distrust is also strong towards Israel's promise to halt military operations, as the Jewish state recently attempted to assassinate Hamas leaders in Doha, despite US warnings.

One detail of the plan, revealed in a Trump administration map, has sparked controversy: the existence of a security zone along Gaza's southern border with Egypt. Its control remains unclear, but potential Israeli involvement would further exacerbate tensions.

Earlier on Tuesday, Donald Trump had given Hamas an ultimatum. Speaking to reporters at the White House, he said Hamas had "3 or 4" days to respond to the Gaza peace plan.

He then stressed that if Hamas does not accept the peace plan, "he will let Israel do what it needs to do."

In addition, Benjamin Netanyahu made two last-minute changes to Donald Trump's peace plan on Monday, mainly concerning the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. These changes surprised Arab countries, especially Qatar, which asked for clarifications on the peace plan.

Others, however, fear that a rejection by Hamas would give Netanyahu a pretext to continue the war "with the support of the US and the West."

Since the October 7, 2023, attack carried out by Hamas, which left about 1,200 Israelis dead and 251 hostages, the Israeli counterattack has claimed the lives of more than 66,000 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

The humanitarian situation has deteriorated dramatically: famine confirmed by UN agencies and accusations of genocide against Israel, which the Jewish state categorically rejects.
