KABUL: Afghan forces have claimed to have killed 64 Taliban fighters in air strikes in two provinces.

An airstrike last night in Pashtun Zarghoon district of Herat province killed 50 Taliban and destroyed four vehicles, 10 motorcycles and a large quantity of ammunition, including a car loaded with explosives.

In addition, 14 Taliban militants were killed in an airstrike last night in Feroz Nakhchira District, Samangan Province.While a Taliban hideout and weapons were also destroyed.

The capture of Sher Khan Bandar in northern Afghanistan.50 kilometers from Kunduz city, is the biggest victory of the Taliban since the announcement of the withdrawal of US forces.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also confirmed that the Taliban had seized the crossing across the Pinej River.Our Mujahideen have gained full control of the border crossings with Tajikistan in Sher Khan Bandar and Kunduz,he told the news agency.

Another member of the provincial council, Umaruddin Wali, said the area had been cut off since Monday night.

There is a 700-meter-long bridge over the corridor, built in collaboration with the United States and opened in 2007 with the aim of boosting trade between Central Asian neighbors.
